Banyan Tree Lang Co Review

Banyan Tree Lang Co is a remote 5-star resort in Central Vietnam, a 75-minute drive from Da Nang International Aiport, nestled at mountain foothills in the peaceful village of Lang Co. Lang Co is a beach-front hotel, but you most likely won’t come here for beach and sun-basking.

Rather, Banyan Tree is a perfect stop for exploring the incredible surrounding nature and culture, situated nearby three UNESCO-listed World Heritage Sites: Hoi An Ancient Town, The Imperial Citadel of Hue and My Son Sanctuary.

Reach Banyan Tree either by a complimentary shuttle bus that runs on a fixed time schedule, an airport taxi ($16 USD) or the hotel private car ($80 USD one way). Lang Co has three different villa types, all pool villas: Lagoon, Beachfront, or Hillside Villa. We stayed in the Lagoon Pool Villa.

Villa & Service
The Lagoon Pool Villa faces out into a natural lagoon coated with lily pads, trees, and bushes. In the backdrop, you can still see those impressive green mountain peaks covered in misty Springtime fog at the top. In this private retreat, you have an impressive amount of space (131 square meters – larger than our London flat!), you feel completely immersed within nature and separated from the outside world. Lay back on the daybed, hear nothing but birds whistling, or maybe, your room service arriving at the door.

The villa itself is just as spacious, centered around an immaculate super king-size bed. The ensuite bathroom is set at the back of the villa with a freestanding bathtub, separate shower, his and her washbowls. Every day, all the little touches were there, like visiting in the afternoon with delicious complimentary snacks and tea.

So naturally, it’s easy to spend a lot of time chilling in your new pad, and the In-Room Dining menu supports this. Lunch, dinner, snacks, smoothies, cocktails, an extensive menu for entertaining your taste buds while lapping up the sun on your terrace and taking a cool dip in your pool. We really loved the unique dining experiences on offer here, such as an in-villa BBQ that can be DIY or catered. Sadly, we didn’t find time for this or the floating breakfast.

Service here is generally next-level. We visited at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic after Vietnam imposed a travel ban from China, so the resort was much quieter than normal. But, from the moment we arrived with the announcement of a gong, we were made to feel like royalty, especially by Lam. Lam arranged all our activities to fit our tight schedule and we really squeezed the most out of our stay. The hotel just runs so well, and I imagine this would also be true at full capacity.

Dining
The resort has three restaurants: Azura, Saffron and Watercourt. Azura is a daytime beach-front restaurant offering Mediterranean cuisine for lunch. Saffron, is the most impressive; an award-winning signature Thai restaurant in the hills with wide sea views and mountain vistas. Watercourt is where you can enjoy authentic Vietnamese food in the evening and for breakfast, an enormous and assorted buffet – a mix of Continental, American and Asian offerings such as Dim Sum.

Saffron is the hotel’s stand-out fine dining experience where just visiting feels like an event. Candle-lit and romantic, dark wood palettes, aromatic and authentic Thai dishes. I had the signature Thai Barbecue Curried Chicken which was tender and succulent. Dining at Banyan Tree was always enjoyable, high quality and well presented, though sometimes missing that special something which makes a dish truly memorable.

Prices across all restaurants are fair, equivalent to a mid to high-end restaurant in London or Paris.

Spa
The Spa area is secluded in a temple of peace and quietness. We enjoyed a 90-minute couple’s rejuvenating treatment using locally produced Cajuput Oil, traditionally known for its healing benefits. Treatments in 5-star hotels are always dear, but not always as spectacular. Our massage and facial were careful, luxurious, and quite simply, an exceptional experience that we enjoyed more than many others we’ve had at similar hotels at similar price points. To finish, we were served warm tea and delicious spring rolls with mango sauce. We were truly invigorated and left with a sense of inner peace.

Coming to Banyan Tree, you’ll probably either be traveling from Hanoi or Da Nang. Either way, visiting Lang Co is just the respite and escapism you’ll need coming from a bustling, noisy city. There are only two hotels on this coast, Banyan Tree and its sister resort, Angsana, so, unlike, Hoi An, you won’t feel like a tourist stuffed in a suffocating hotel strip.

We absolutely loved our stay at Banyan Tree Lang Co as it felt like our own private getaway which was relaxing and endlessly romantic. If you visit, isolation should be part of the appeal. The resort is removed from almost everything, so you won’t find any restaurants, shops or nightlife less than a half-hour drive from the hotel. Yet, we didn’t really feel the need to seek external leisure, as the hotel offers a wide range of exciting, local activities, from yoga to kayaking to adventurous hikes in the Bach Ma national park. The world is so vast, with so much to explore, but yet we’re determined to find a reason to come back and visit Banyan Tree Lang Co.
