Zagreb is often overlooked — with those keen to spend time in Croatia tending to prefer the country’s spectacular coastline and beautiful beaches.
Yet for visitors fortunate enough to find themselves in Croatia’s quaint capital, the rewards are plentiful, this a place that demands to be explored, with a great deal to be discovered and lots to see and do.
Brimming with church spires, domes and attractive architecture, Zagreb is best explored on foot, its cobbled streets and red roofs catching the eye, the climate perfect and the people always welcoming.
Start in the Upper Town, where the Gothic twin-spired cathedral and ancient St Mark’s Church can be found, before heading to the Lower Town, where Ban Jelacic Square’s bars, cafes and restaurants await. This is a vibrant place and the perfect spot to kick back and relax. Better than the beach? There’s no doubt about it.
